On June 15, 2021, Councillor Pat McKenna provided a letter of resignation from Council effective August 31, 2021. Since this resignation does not fall within the same year as a general municipal election, a by-election was required.

As is required by the Local Government Act, once Council appoints the Chief Election Officer and the Deputy Chief Election Officer, the by-election must be held within 80 days. On September 8, 2021, Council appointed Shelly Russwurm as the Chief Election Officer and Lia Pesklevits as the Deputy Chief Election Officer.

A municipal by-election in the Town of Comox will take place on Saturday, November 27, 2021. One (1) Councillor for Town of Comox Council will be elected to fill the seat vacated by Councillor Pat McKenna.

The nomination period for candidates closed on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 4:00 p.m.
