As part of the Comox Valley Water Service, the Town of Comox purchases water from the Comox Valley Regional District and distributes it to properties within the Town of Comox municipal boundary.
For most properties, the Municipal Utility Water Service Fees are noted on the annual Property Tax Notice.
Consumer rates for water are governed by the Comox Water Rates and Regulations Bylaw 529, and depend on whether or not a water meter is installed on their service connection.
If a residential property has a water meter installed - visit the Water Metering webpage.
If you need the main water service turned off at the street...
Only authorized Town employees are permitted to turn off (then back on) the main water valve at the street as this is Town owned property.
Contact the Town as much in advance as possible (you can even book ahead) so that we can schedule our staff to meet your project timeline in the best way possible.
Our regular working hours for this service are M-F, 8am-4pm – closed weekends and statutory holidays.
- Regular working hours, contact the Public Works department - phone 250-339-5410 or email publicworks@comox.ca
- After Hours Emergency (leak), call the Town’s answering service, Protec: 250-338-9434
The Town purchases water from the Comox Valley Regional District and is therefore subject to the water use restrictions specified in the Comox Valley Water Conservation Bylaw (PDF), where four stages of water use restrictions are established.
View the Current Water Restrictions webpage or the Comox Valley Regional District website.
In 2010, Town Council implemented a water metering project to help identify water leaks and reduce the cost of water for all Town of Comox residents. The metering project also makes it possible to meter and invoice commercial and residential properties for actual use.
Properties that receive a meter may continue paying the flat rate water fee or they may volunteer to be billed by the meter - view the Water Metering webpage.
Water Testing - provided by Vancouver Island Health Authority or visit the Town of Comox Water System results, and enter Comox in the search field.
