In 2025, the Town of Comox was declared a Bee City by Bee City Canada. The Bee City designation is a long-term commitment to protect pollinators (not just bees!). This honour is awarded to municipalities that publicly declare their intention to protect pollinators and their habitats through coordinated and collaborative actions that align with the Bee City program. Becoming a Bee City reflects Comox's commitment to protecting and enhancing biodiversity and strengthening our support for the creation, protection and promotion of pollinator habitat.
Comox's plans to create and improve pollinator habitat include: Expanding pollinator activities through partnerships, habitat improvements, and public education
- Creating or retrofitting two pollinator garden beds annually
- Celebrating Pollinator Week as a focal point for public involvement, with garden events, art, and poetry initiatives
- Installing interpretive signage at existing pollinator garden sites
- Conducting ongoing social media outreach
- Exploring No Mow Zones in designated parks to promote pollinator activity
The Town of Comox’s commitment to pollinator health reflects a broader dedication to ecological stewardship, climate resilience, and community well-being. By pursuing these initiatives, the Town will continue to build a pollinator-friendly community that supports biodiversity and engages residents in meaningful ways.
