As part of the Accessibility Assessment and Action Plan, the Town of Comox is committed to maintaining an accessible website. This commitment includes reviewing the Town website against Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) WCAG 2.2 AA standards and correcting any accessibility barriers identified.
Current Accessibility Status
The Town's website is currently being reviewed against and updated to align with WCAG 2.2 AA standards.
Accessibility Tools and Compatibility
This website features an accessibility button with the following tools:
- High contrast: increases the colour contrast of the website by turning the background black, text green and links yellow.
- Negative contrast: inverts the colours of the website to create negative contrast (light text on a dark background)
- Grayscale: displays the website without the use of colour
- Light background: converts any non-white backgrounds on the website to white
- Underline links: Adds an underline to all links on the website
- Highlight links: Highlights links using a black background and yellow link text
- Hide images: Removes all images from the website
- Large text: Increases font size
- Readable font: Converts the website font to BCSans
- Dyslexia-friendly mode: Converts the website font to OpenDyslexic
- Increased line height: Increases the line height to create space between lines of text
- Increased text spacing: Increases the space between letters and words
Users can adjust the location of the button from showing on the left side of the screen to the right side of the screen, or hide the button for a day, permanently, or until their next visit to the site.
Known Barriers
Despite the Town's effort to create an accessibility digital experience, there are some known barriers on this website:
- Town published YouTube video embedded on page or linked to are auto-captioned and as such, these captions may not be 100 per cent accurate.
- Some PDFs on the Town's website are not optimized for accessibility. If you require an accessible alternative to a PDF, please contact the Town at town@comox.ca.
- Tables on the Town's website may scroll horizontally on smaller screen sizes, including mobile devices.

Ongoing Accessibility Maintenance
For 2025, the Town is completing a website accessibility maintenance project to identify and correct accessibility barriers on the website. As a part of this project, Town staff have received training to ensure they are able to continue creating accessible content for the website.
