In early 2026, the Town of Comox adopted a new Zoning Bylaw following a comprehensive review and update process. This important milestone modernizes the Town’s land use regulations to better reflect current community needs, provincial legislation, and the vision established in the Official Community Plan. The new bylaw introduces updated zones, definitions, and development regulations to align with community priorities, including housing choice, livability, and sustainability. The new bylaw will help guide how land and buildings are used and developed across the community. The Town extends its thanks to everyone who provided feedback and contributed throughout the update process, helping shape the future of the Town of Comox.
A Zoning Bylaw is a regulatory tool that sets out what uses are permitted on specific properties and establishes standards such as building height, density, setbacks, lot coverage, and parking. The bylaw provides clarity and consistency for residents, businesses, and developers, while supporting compatible development.
If you are considering a development project that does not meet the provisions of the zoning bylaw, a zoning amendment, development variance permit, or temporary use permit may be required. Applications can be made online, and you can contact the Planning Department either in person at Town Hall or by phone at 250-339-1118 for more information.
