The Town of Comox will be hosting an open house on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the d’Esterre Seniors’ Centre, 1801 Beaufort Avenue. The event will highlight the upcoming infrastructure projects set to be constructed in conjunction with the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project that is scheduled to begin in summer 2023.

The open house will provide an overview of the Town’s projects that include roundabouts at Glacier View Drive and Comox Ave., and Rodello Street and Comox Ave. These roundabouts were initially identified in the Town’s 2011 Traffic Management Study and will address the wait times coming in and out of subdivisions onto the main arterial road, reduce the speed coming into Town, decrease collision impacts, and increase pedestrian safety.

“The Town has examined these roundabouts for years with the aim of improving the congestion and safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists,” said Jordan Wall, the Town’s Chief Administrator Officer. “These one-lane roundabouts will improve traffic flow, accommodate the larger transportation trucks that come through our community, and address future development and growth.”

The upgrade of the road cross section on Beaufort Ave between Church St. and Nordin St. will include the installation of a sidewalk on the south side of the road in front of Town Hall and the d’Esterre Seniors’ Centre and the addition of parking pockets to address parking issues in the area. While the improvements to include sidewalks will result in a loss of parking on the south side of the road, accessible parking across from the d’Esterre Seniors’ Centre will be maintained.

The Town will be constructing a new sidewalk on the south side of Balmoral Ave between Stewart St. and Pritchard Rd. This sidewalk will provide sidewalk access to an existing BC Transit bus stop near Balmoral and Pritchard. The upgrades will also include the installation of a bus shelter at this transit stop.

The long-anticipated repaving of Balmoral Ave between Donovan Dr. and Torrence Rd., as well as the southbound lane of Torrence Rd. between Balmoral Ave. and Albatross Ave. will be completed. The existing crosswalk on Balmoral at Brooklyn Creek will be upgraded with pedestrian activated beacons. The Town will also address storm sewer infrastructure near the Brooklyn Creek crossing on Balmoral and the installation of sanitary infrastructure on Torrence Rd. in anticipation of future development.

Join Town Council and staff at the open house and take time to further review plans, ask questions, and provide comments. For more information about these projects, visit comox.ca/currentprojects.
