The Town of Comox conducted an Alternative Approval Process (AAP) to determine whether to proceed with a petition to the Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs to extend the boundaries of the area of the municipality to include the lands legally described as:
- The North half of Lot 20, District Lot 186, Plan 449 (PID 001-095-544, no civic address);
- Lot A, District Lot 186, Plan 24247 (PID 002-992-647, 480 Torrence Road); and.
- The North half of the South half of Lot 20, District Lot 186, Plan 449 (PID 009-047-671, 456 Torrence Road).
The AAP process allowed eligible electors to express opposition to the proposal by submitting an elector response form by the established deadline.
Results
- Deadline for submissions: June 6, 2025 at 4:30 p.m.
- Estimated number of eligible electors: 12,577
- 10% threshold (to prevent approval): 1258
- Number of valid elector responses received: 28 (0.22% of electors)
Outcome: As fewer than 10% of electors submitted valid response forms, the Town is authorized to proceed with the Boundary Extension without the need to hold a referendum.
About the AAP
The Alternative Approval Process is a method of obtaining elector approval without conducting a referendum. If fewer than 10% of eligible electors oppose the proposal in writing, the local government may proceed with the initiative as planned.
