The Town of Comox has recently installed park and trail counters to gauge usage. The counters sense and detect the infrared wavelength that pedestrians and wheeled traffic emit and trigger as they pass by the sensor.
These counters have recently been installed at various Comox park and trail locations to collect general data on park use. The information collected will assist Town staff with operational work, capital improvements, and assist with grant applications.

Counter Locations:
- NE Woods
- Brooklyn Creek Greenway
- MacDonald Wood Park
- Mack Laing Park
- Baybrook Nature Park
- Comox Dog Park
- Village Park
- Marina Park Boardwalk
- Anderton Park
- Lancaster Park
- Filberg Park
Identification tags have been placed on the boxes as they could be misinterpreted as hidden cameras. Town staff are asking for public support by not tampering the boxes so that the program can be maintained for the betterment of the Town’s parks and trails.
Statistics on park use will be posted annually on the Town’s website. The counters will be in place indefinitely and can be repositioned to other park locations to track usage.
