Depending on the proposed work, some activities may require both a Highway Use Permit and a Road Permit.
Under the Highway Use Bylaw No. 1920, a Highway Use Permit is required for certain work or improvements on a Town highway.
Note: Town highway means the areas used for access or utility purposes. This includes boulevards which are the areas between the roadway and a private property line. A boulevard may include a sidewalk, ditch, drainage swale, or cycle path. Property owners are responsible for confirming the exact location of their private property line. A BC Land Surveyor may need to be consulted.
Examples of work include:
- Driveway crossing of a boulevard, sidewalk, ditch or swale.
- Note: The maximum driveway width on Town property is outlined in Section 10 of Highway Use Bylaw No. 1920.
- Other works required to be provided under the Town's servicing bylaw, including water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and other utility works.
- Building or structure encroaching on Town highway. Ground cover, vegetation, grass, or landscaping are also considered improvements under Highway Use Bylaw No. 1920.
- Note: Parking is not permitted on the boulevard as outlined in Section 7.3 of the Street and Traffic Bylaw No. 1358.

- Submit your complete application package no less than 10 business days prior to your requested start date to publicworks@comox.ca or deliver it to Municipal Works at 1390 Guthrie Road (closed 12-1).
