The Town of Comox is hosting a free informative workshop for those considering running in the 2026 municipal election, as well as those interested in learning more about local government and civic leadership.
The workshop will take place on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Hall at the Comox Community Centre, 1855 Noel Avenue.
The session will be facilitated by Christina Benty of Strategic Leadership Solutions and will provide participants with a practical understanding of local government, elected office, and community leadership.
Whether you're considering putting your name forward as a candidate or want to be a more informed elector, this interactive workshop will offer valuable insight into the realities of local government and the role elected officials play in shaping the future of their communities.
"Strong local government starts with informed citizens and engaged leaders," said Jordan Wall, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Comox. "This workshop provides an excellent opportunity for electors to better understand how local government works, what it means to serve in elected office, and how thoughtful leadership can help support the future of our community."
Discussion topics will include:
- What are the roles and responsibilities of local government and its elected officials?
- What do I need to consider before running for office?
- How do we attract and elect the best people for the job?
- Together, how do we embrace leadership practices that promote long-term sustainability for our future?
The workshop is intended for:
- First-time or returning candidates
- Community members and future leaders
- Electors who want their vote to count
- Anyone passionate about making a difference
