At its meeting on May 13, 2026, Comox Council unanimously approved the 2026–2030 Financial Plan Bylaw and the 2026 Tax Rates Bylaw.
The 2026 budget includes an increase to the general municipal levy of approximately $141.50 ($11.79 per month) on the Town’s share of property taxes for a home assessed at approximately $840,000.
The budget also includes an additional contribution of approximately $51.79 annually for a home assessed at $840,000 to the Town’s Infrastructure Renewal Fund. This investment will help address the gap between current funding levels and the amount required to maintain and replace critical infrastructure. Strengthening the fund helps reduce long-term risk and ensures municipal assets can continue to deliver safe and reliable services to the community.
“Council remains committed to balancing community needs with the financial impact on residents,” said Comox Mayor Nicole Minions. “Council looked for opportunities to reduce spending and service levels where possible, including reducing the special projects budget for this year. This budget focuses on maintaining the services residents rely on every day while making targeted investments in amenities and infrastructure that support quality of life in Comox. Our priority is to remain fiscally responsible while continuing to deliver value through our local services.”
Key investments in the 2026 budget include:
- upgrades to parks and improvements to recreation services, including a new bouldering wall and replacement of fitness studio equipment
- development of a Recreation Master Plan to guide future planning and initiatives
- expansion and upgrades to begin on the existing fire station
- continued investment into Downtown Comox, the Marina and waterfront areas
- completion of the Mack Laing viewing platform and the opening of Newson Family Nature Park
The Tax Rates Bylaw and budget support Comox’s Strategic Plan and include key investments in community amenities, infrastructure, and public spaces.
While property taxes are paid to the Town of Comox, 45 per cent of every residential tax dollar stays with the Town to provide municipal programs and services. The remaining 55 per cent is allocated to service partners, including the Comox Valley Regional District, schools, hospital, library, Municipal Finance Authority and BC Assessment.
