A crevice garden is built by partially burying wide, flat pieces of stone vertically, like the pages of a book, and filling the crevices between them with a well-drained soil mix. Little plants tucked into the crevices have their roots guided deep by the rocks on either side, making them impressively drought-tolerant.
Our in-house expert, Dany, has given workshops and presentations, and now the work is featured in Fine Gardening Magazine with this positive review of the garden beds at Comox Marina Park!
“We are very fortunate to have a stunning set of crevice gardens located along the public marina walkway. In every season, these south-facing gardens have some plant blooming or displaying interesting textures. Over the last few years, the area around the Comox Valley has received less precipitation, resulting in abnormally dry conditions throughout spring and summer. The crevice gardens seem to thrive in these conditions."
Thank you to Dianna Colnett for taking the time to showcase the gardens and what makes them so special.
