Get ready to make a bold and refreshing start to 2026! On January 1, the annual ocean plunge will return to Goose Spit Park.
Celebrating this long-standing event, this beloved community gathering invites everyone to dive into the cool waters of Comox Bay. Free and family-friendly, it’s the perfect way to celebrate the spirit of the Comox Valley, bringing together people of all ages for a fun and refreshing start to the New Year. Costumes are encouraged, so feel free to dress up and add to the festive atmosphere.
Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., and the plunge promptly starts at 11:00 a.m.
“It is invigorating to begin your new year by saying 'YES' to the annual Polar Bear Plunge,” said Comox Mayor Nicole Minions. “If you’re on the fence, come watch and cheer on friends and family this year. The community spirit is contagious, and you may find yourself up for the challenge. We would love to see you and yours on January 1st at Goose Spit.”
Participants can warm up afterwards with complimentary hot chocolate – don’t forget to bring your own mug. Exciting prizes will be up for grabs for those who register onsite, including Fitness Studio memberships, Comox Recreation gift certificates, and passes to the Comox Valley Regional District’s Aquatic and Sports Centre, as well as a couple of Mount Washington lift passes.
Comox Fire Rescue and a lifeguard will be onsite to ensure safety and standby assistance should it be required. Parking may be limited at Goose Spit, so attendees are encouraged to carpool or use active transportation to the event.
Safety for all the participants is a top priority:
- Children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Participants are advised to limit their time in the water to just a few minutes.
- Dress in warm layers before and after the swim.
