Thank you for all the emails and inquiries about the gardens along Comox Hill.

In response to online messages directed to the Town, the original message shared online did not include all the facts and the scope of work being completed.

The existing storm main is being replaced as it has reached the end of its lifespan. This work is being coordinated with the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project to minimize disruption, ensure infrastructure reliability, and significantly reduce costs.

Relocating the storm main into the roadway is not feasible due to existing underground utilities and the need to avoid placing storm manholes within the cycling lane, which would pose safety concerns.

We recognize the value and significance of the gardens along Comox Hill. Every effort will be made to minimize the impact on the plants on the boulevard, and the construction team is working carefully to preserve as much of the green space as possible. Any significant plants that must be removed, including the ornamental rhododendrons, will be carefully dug up, salvaged, stored, and replanted following construction. Where opportunities allow, climate-resilient and native plant species will be planted, with the goal of renewing the natural beauty and biodiversity of this entrance to the Town.

We appreciate the community's passion and commitment to protecting our shared spaces.
