The Town of Comox is pleased to announce the launch of the Home Suite Home incentive program, a new initiative designed to support homeowners in creating additional housing options within the community.

The new program offers a $3,000 grant to homeowners who develop a new accessory dwelling unit (ADU) or bring an existing unauthorized ADU up to the current BC Building Code and zoning bylaw standards. The primary objectives of the program are to support homeowners looking to build new coach houses or renovate existing secondary suite spaces to bring them up to industry code and to increase the availability of housing options in the community. To be eligible, the ADU must not be decommissioned nor utilized as a short-term rental for a 5-year period following occupancy.

“The Comox Home Suite Home incentive program is one way that we are supporting diverse housing options in our community,” said Comox Mayor, Nicole Minions. “We look forward to working with homeowners to work through the process and get these much-needed housing spaces completed.”

The program is limited to the first 25 qualifying ADUs and is funded through the federal Housing Accelerator Fund, which the Town of Comox received last year. Homeowners planning to construct a new coach house or upgrade an unauthorized secondary suite in an existing detached home may be eligible. This program, in conjunction with the Town’s current OCP update, development application review, and other Housing Accelerator Funds will assist the Town in meeting the requirements under the Province’s Bill 44 to pre-zone over 3,000 units by the end of 2025.
