Contact Town of Comox Public Works Supervisor at publicworks@comox.ca or call 250-339-5410 for PROHIBITED or ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGES of the materials/products listed in the Town’s Sanitary Sewer Bylaw No. 2057 - refer to PART 2 -- USE OF SEWER SYSTEM, DIVISION 2.1 – Waste Discharges, 5. Prohibited Discharges and 6. Standards for Waste Discharges, 7. Accidental Discharges.
Product Runoff & Safe PRODUCT Disposal

- RUNOFF from properties and disposal of products down sinks, toilets, or showers can cause serious and lasting harm to the wastewater system, creeks, ponds, fish habitat, and marine environments.
- SAFE DISPOSAL methods can be found by using the Wizard tool on the Town’s Solid Waste webpage.
Storm Drain Water
This water does not get treated; it flows directly into creeks, ponds, and the ocean. Products can runoff from properties into storm drains. Common sources of runoff include:
- Washing or treating a building, roof, window, driveway, or vehicle
- Lawn fertilizing or pesticides
- Vehicles leaking fluids
Roof Cleaning & Moss Treatment

These products can runoff your property and enter storm drains. The Town does not endorse any specific cleaning or treatment products. Recommended cleaning methods are:
- Asphalt, cedar, and untreated wood shingles: Clean using plain water or water with a non-hazardous cleaning solution.
- Treated wood shingles: Dry wash only, as these materials contain toxic preservatives.
