The Town of Comox is seeking caring, community-minded individuals to join the Snow Angels, a volunteer program aimed at helping seniors and residents with disabilities clear snow and ice from their sidewalks. Now in the second year of a three-year pilot program, the focus is to build on volunteer resources.
“With snow falling earlier, we want to support our community in assisting others who find it challenging or are unable to clear their sidewalks. We see folks out doing this as an act of kindness already,” said Comox Mayor, Nicole Minions. “Comox is known for its neighbourly spirit, and this program formalizes that kindness by matching Snow Angels with residents who need a helping hand.”
Clearing sidewalks in the winter provides wider benefits to the community, as the Snow Angels program ensures safer pathways for everyone, including emergency personnel, children walking to school, postal carriers, and the everyday walker. Please note that the program only covers sidewalks adjacent to properties, not private walkways or driveways.
To raise awareness and encourage participation, the Town is calling on community organizations, youth sports leagues, high school students seeking community service hours and faith groups to help spread the word.
Anyone who applied last year to be a Snow Angel or requested assistance will need to reapply this year.
