Comox Fire Rescue is seeking dedicated community members to join its team of paid-on-call firefighters.
Residents interested in serving their community, developing new skills and being part of a supportive and professional team are encouraged to apply.
To learn more about the role, Comox Fire Rescue will host a recruitment open house on Tuesday, October 20, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (1870 Noel Avenue). Prospective applicants will have the opportunity to meet firefighters, tour fire apparatus and equipment, watch live training demonstrations, and learn more about the training program, compensation and expectations of the role.
2026 Recruitment Timeline
- Application Intake: Now through November 5
- Physical Ability Testing: November 7, 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Panel Interviews: November 9 to 15
- Final Selection and Notification: November 17
- Recruit Class Orientation: November 24, 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Comox Fire Rescue provides all firefighter training in-house in accordance with National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®)1001 Level I and II standards. The comprehensive training program takes approximately 18 months to complete and combines weekly evening training with scheduled weekend sessions.
Recruits are required to attend training every Wednesday evening from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
First Responder Program
The first phase of recruit training is the First Responder Program. To successfully complete this component, recruits must attend the following mandatory weekend training sessions:
- December 5 and 6, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- December 12 and 13, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Following completion of the First Responder Program, recruits will continue firefighter training through a combination of weekly Wednesday evening sessions and scheduled weekend training.
Beginning in January, recruits will attend a full-day training session every fourth weekend, typically held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on either a Saturday or Sunday.
