The Town of Comox is celebrating another successful Nautical Days Festival, which brought thousands of residents and visitors together on the August BC Day long weekend for events and activities at Comox Marina Park.
This year’s festival introduced several new attractions, including a T-shirt design contest won by local artist Lilian (Lily) Sepulveda Navarro; an Artsphere community printmaking experience; photo opportunities with a mermaid and a pirate; and a nautical costume competition.
Nautical Days Committee Chair, Chris Haslett, expressed appreciation for the festival’s community spirit and the efforts of so many people.
“The Nautical Days Festival has always been about celebrating our community, and this year was no exception. We were thrilled to welcome new activities, entertainers, and fresh energy to some long-standing traditions,” said Haslett. “As a committee, we are always looking for ways to evolve the festival while staying true to what makes it special. We value the feedback we receive from vendors, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees, and those perspectives help inform future planning. It takes strong sponsorship, volunteer dedication, and community support to make this annual event possible, and we appreciate everyone who played a part in this year’s success.”
The Town extends special thanks to the sponsors whose generosity made key activities happen, including:
- Quality Foods for the Festival of Lights – a long-standing admiral festival sponsor
- Aurum Solar Ltd. for supporting the ECO Team
(Eco Team led by volunteer Bob Bowen) - Robbins and Company for the Bullhead Fishing Derby
- Central Builders Courtenay for the Build, Bail and Sail
- Comox Valley Vintage Wheels for the Car Show
- And Comox Valley Road Runners for the inclusion of the annual 4-miler race
Most importantly, Comox Nautical Days' success rests on the countless hours that volunteers dedicate. Their commitment and enthusiasm ensure that the festival continues to thrive year after year.
Planning for the 2027 Nautical Days Festival is already underway. Organizing an event of this magnitude is a year-round effort, and the committee encourages anyone interested in becoming involved—whether as a sponsor, volunteer, or supporter—to connect with the Town at nauticaldays@comox.ca.
