2026 World Migratory Bird Day – Every Bird Counts: Your Observations Matter

The theme for World Migratory Bird Day 2026, “Every Bird Counts: Your Observations Matter,” highlights the important role public participation plays in collecting information about migratory bird populations, their habitats, and the factors that affect their survival. Community observations help build our collective knowledge and support efforts to better protect birds and the places they depend on.

On May 9, 2026, the Town of Comox Bird Team hosted a World Migratory Bird Day event at Filberg Park to engage with residents and share information about how they can contribute to bird conservation. Information pamphlets were distributed, highlighting the importance of citizen science and the ways residents can help gather useful data on migratory birds.

The event featured guided birdwatching tours led by Comox Valley Nature birders Kathryn Landry and Amanda Vaughn, as well as a visit from Ambassador Bird Lanei and handler John Robertson from MARS Wildlife Rescue.
