The first poppy goes to the Governor General, followed in rank by the provincial Lieutenant Governors, and then local mayors. Today (Wednesday, October 23, 2024), the Comox Legion Branch #160 presented the first poppy to Comox Mayor Nicole Minions. Starting on the last Friday of the month and until November 11, Canadians wear a poppy to honour Canada’s Veterans and remember those who sacrificed for the freedoms we have today.

Presenting the first poppy is the President of the Branch, Gerry Maillet, along with Val Greenlaw (Poppy Chair) and John Paulin (Sergeant-at-Arms).
