The Town of Comox is excited to announce Music in the Park is returning for its annual event of the summer, happening Sunday, September 3, 2023.
This free, family event will feature a depth of local musical talent from 1 - 5 p.m. at the lower gazebo in Comox Marina Park. Elise Boulanger will open the afternoon at 1:00 p.m., with Octiv6 at 2:30 p.m., and conclude with Dani Blond & the Velvet Grip at 4:00 p.m. DJ Bobby Herron will keep us moving with some sweet musical pairings between performances.
“Town of Comox is pleased to bring out three talented West Coast musicians, who generously give back by bringing their music into our community,” said Comox Mayor, Nicole Minions. “This is a great opportunity for residents or visitors to stay local, dance at the park or simply sit back and enjoy the music. Bring your own drinks, snacks and chairs or blankets. Hope to see you there.”
1:00 p.m. Elise Boulanger
Hailing from the West Coast of Canada on Snuneymuxw territory, Elise Boulanger is a bilingual Chamber-Folk-Pop artist with a haunting avalanche of a voice. She creates cinematic dreamscapes influenced by nature, her classical training and artists like Regina Spektor, Patrick Watson, Franz Schubert and Radiohead. She’s sonically reminiscent of Kate Bush, Lana Del Rey, and Kishi Bashi.
2:30 p.m. Oktiv6
When Eric Ettinger isn’t playing his trade as a support worker for special needs adults, or volunteering for the Care-A-Van, he spends much of his time creating music, as Oktiv6.
The long-time Comox Valley resident - he and his family moved to the Valley from Port Alice 28 years ago - has been creating music for many years. Much of Otiv6’s music reflects where he lives - Vancouver Island. His videos are shot around the Island, with many recognizable spots, such as the Buckley Bay ferry terminal, the Campbell River marina, Nanaimo, and even tubing on the Puntledge River.
4:00 p.m. Dani Blond & The Velvet Grip - * Replacement Artist Élise LeBlanc (August 24 update)
Élise LeBlanc's music is inspired by vintage country, bluegrass, and western swing. Her lyrics focus on vulnerability, resilience, and the beauty of the simple life. Backed by her string band The Ridgeriders, her storytelling comes to life with guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and upright bass. Élise's second record was just produced in Victoria, BC, in May 2023, and is due to drop in summer 2023. Catch her performing at festivals and concerts in and around Vancouver Island and beyond! Élise received grants from FACTOR Canada to record and promote her debut album Runaway Kites, and was a finalist in the Great American Song Contest in 2016.
The event will run with light drizzles in the forecast. If heavier rain prevails, follow the Comox Community Centre’s Facebook page for updates.
